Nelson Cruz signed with the New York Mets organization as an international free agent in 1998 and worked through three years in the Dominican Summer League before advancing through rookie ball, Class A, and Double-A affiliates. The Milwaukee Brewers selected him in the Rule 5 draft in 2004, and he made his MLB debut in 2005, appearing in 31 games. Cruz spent 2006-2010 with Texas, developing into a power threat and hitting .318 with 33 home runs and 76 RBI in his 2009 breakthrough season. He became a postseason star for the Rangers in their 2010-2011 World Series runs, earning ALCS MVP honors in 2011 after hitting .364 with 6 home runs.
