Heath Bell pitched 11 seasons in the major leagues, establishing himself as one of baseball's elite closers with the San Diego Padres from 2009-2011. After earning freshman All-American honors at Santa Ana College in 1997, Bell signed with the New York Mets as an undrafted free agent in 1998 and spent six seasons moving between Triple-A Norfolk and the majors, making his MLB debut in 2004. Traded to San Diego in 2006, Bell became the Padres' closer in 2009 and dominated for three seasons, earning three All-Star selections, two Rolaids Relief Man Awards, and converting 41 straight save opportunities from 2010-2011 to tie Trevor Hoffman's team record. He finished his career with stops in Miami, Arizona, and Tampa Bay, retiring after the 2014 season with proven expertise in high-leverage situations and the mental approach required to close games at the highest level.
